<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12.0pt">Proposal: Creation of a new certificate in POLS called “Intelligence and National Security Studies”<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12.0pt">Requirements: Four proposed new courses: POLS 125 Introduction to Intelligence and Statecraft; POLS 130 US Intelligence Community; POLS 325 Intelligence Analytics; and POLS 345 Counterintelligence. Students
enrolled in the certificate program are also required to participate in 1) a study abroad semester program or, 2) participate in 20 hours of campus activities

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12.0pt">Background: A KU team has been granted a 5 year award to establish this program as part of a Defense Intelligence Agency’s (DIA) Intelligence Community Centers for Academic Excellence (IC CAE) grant. The goal
is to set up a certificate, then a minor, and then a major after 5 years. For the first 5 years the grant will fund the instructors for the courses, as well as a partnership with two smaller schools in Kansas.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12.0pt">Eventually the program would have an internship pipeline towards permanent careers in the intelligence community. Several Universities around the country have done this.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
