<p class="MsoNormal">We’re organizing an NSF CAREER workshop to help faculty craft competitive NSF CAREER proposals (described below). Please pass this information to faculty you feel would benefit. In the event we receive more than 10 applications, we may
seek your input on cohort acceptance decisions.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Announcing, the <i>NSF CAREER Writers’ Workshop</i>.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"> </p>
<p class="MsoNormal">The Bremner Editing Center and KU Research are teaming up to provide an NSF CAREER Workshop for CAREER-eligible KU faculty. Organized jointly by Lisa McLendon, Coordinator of the KU School of Journalism’s Bremner Editing Center, and Doug
Bornemann, Assistant Director of Research Development, the CAREER Writers’ Workshop will assist a cohort of ten applicants in crafting engaging and competitive CAREER proposals.

<p class="MsoNormal">The Workshop will consist of three seminars (open to all) and four structured writing/editing meetings (cohort only). Seminars will be presented by PECASE Award-winner Suzanne Shontz from Engineering
<i>Winning Strategies for Writing an NSF CAREER Proposal</i>, Lisa McLendon from the Bremner Center
<i>Simply Engaging: Crafting Clear, Concise Prose,</i> and Bob Rummer, Director of Research Development,
<i>Incorporating Proposal Feedback</i>. </p>
<p class="MsoNormal"> </p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Achieving proposal clarity, conciseness, and flow will be a major Workshop focus. Cohort participants will receive detailed feedback on their Project Summaries and will exchange proposals with another participant for rubric-guided in-depth
editorial comments on their Project Descriptions. In addition, participants will receive NSF-style reviews of their drafts from other cohort members. Upon completion of the Workshop in mid-June, participants will be encouraged to submit their drafts to KU’s
<i>Proposal Evaluation and External Review</i> (PEER) program for external evaluation prior to submission.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><b> </b></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><b>How to Apply:</b> Applicants interested in cohort participation should send an email expressing a desire to participate to Doug Bornemann (<a href="mailto:dbornemann@ku.edu">dbornemann@ku.edu</a>) by no later than Wednesday April 26.
The application email should contain a draft NSF CAREER Project Summary and a current biosketch.
