[Pols-l] Thompson call

Dear colleagues,

I hope that everyone had a wonderful spring break.  It is that time of the year to send out the Thompson call.
It is that time of the year when I solicit Thompson calls.

As I'd like to award students the Thompsons by mid April to make formal announcements and recognize them during Phi Sigma (ideally), the deadline will be a week from today, March 31st.

I will then circulate them with students and give them approximately 20 days (till April 11th) to submit their applications for the Thompson scholarship. This will allow me to announce them, as we typically do, the following week at phi sigma. I typically run the decisions by the grad committee, as well. I've also cced our grad coordinator, Alec on this email here.

To refresh, the Thompson program is an excellent opportunity for summer research support which also grants graduate students hands-on research experience.

I'm including the official call as a Word document. Faculty members who desire to become Thompson scholarship mentors should draft a proposal with an outline of research goals and output. Please see the attached document for additional details.

As most of you know, this is a win-win for students and faculty alike. As faculty, we get at least one or two grad students to work with. And students get a stipend and research training.

One question from past years that I will answer here concerns multiple proposals. Yes, this is possible, if you need students on different projects.
