Subject: Ed Reilly speaker series
Good morning Don,
Last year the department was provided an allocation from a College KUEA fund for the Ed Reilly Speaker Series. Does the department plan to utilize this account again in FY26?
Last year the department brought in four speakers and expensed ~$6.2K. For this year, there are sufficient funds in the endowment account to possibly host two speaker series (total expenses between $12-13K) if that is something the department is interested in?
For context, the endowment account being used is the Edward F Reilly Civic Engagement fund. The purpose of the fund:
This fund shall be used to catalyze and support civic engagement in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences at the University of Kansas. To
name just a few examples, the Reilly Civic Engagement Fund could: attract superb civic engagement faculty with extra research funds;
attract inspiring speakers to KU to engage with faculty and students alike; provide travel funds for faculty and students to conduct
community-engaged scholarship; support forums for faculty and students at KU to engage with one another on important topics that have
become contentious in national politics; allow students to travel to Washington, D.C. to observe our political process in person and reflect
on how to improve it.
Thanks,
Amanda
