            Proposals for questions and/or an experiment are due by July 19. You should send your submissions to Cora Caton (coracaton at ku.edu), who will be designing and programming this year’s survey. Your questions and/or experiment should only require about 2 minutes of time to complete. Depending on how many people submit questions you might be asked to shorten your submission.

            The survey will use online panel respondents and be representative of the U.S. adult population. However, this will not be a random probability sample survey (those are simply too expensive and provide similar results). We are planning for a 20-minute survey. The sample will likely include about 1,200 respondents.

            The annual survey will take question and experiment contributions from all the POLS faculty, but preference goes towards including questions that directly relate to “the advancement of the American Political Process.” With this in mind a set of common questions are included in the survey for all to make use of. Common questions are attached.

            The American Politics Survey Committee designs the questionnaire each year by incorporating the proposed questions from faculty and gains IRB approval for the survey.

            Individual faculty submitting questions decide whether or not other faculty would be allowed to collaborate with them on projects using the originally proposed questions for two years, but we all have access to the common data. After a two year embargo the data set can be open to anyone.
