Faculty Meeting Minutes
September 23, 2022
Political Science Dept. meeting
Present: John Kennedy, Chair, Robert Rohrschneider, Jack Zhang, Clay Webb, Mark Joslyn, Gary Reich, Brittnee Carter, Nazli Avdan, Hannah Britton, Patrick Miller, Sofia Vera, Kevin Mullinix, Don Haider-Markel, Ashley Urban - Intel Edu. Program Mgr, Linda Pickerel - Admin-Office Mgr.
Chair, Professor John Kennedy, started the meeting reminding all of the department meeting on Sunday, 4pm at Clinton Lake Overlook Park Shelter #1, catered this year by Biemer's BBQ, some vegetarian available - bring sides or desserts.
Professor Clay Webb talked a bit about the IR search, looking at apps after the 15th, and some October interviews.. goal is to vote in weeks before Winter break.
Professor Kennedy then talked about the Online MA, college sets to start Fall 2023. Will be advertising.
We welcome Ashley Urban, Intel Education Program Manager, now on staff in the office, who will be working with this.
The College even asked about possible online undergrad in future, Alesha mentioned Soc. and Psychology are already doing. Something to consider.
Note the email from the college with survey for making Master Plan, Important survey for space management considerations etc. Be sure to submit the survey.
Be sure to submit your syllabi.
There was some talk about the standardization of the syllabi, beginning part of syllabi.
Kevin said mainly making more consistent across all syllabi, not really going to get too far into the weeds of it. Can help with accreditation, assessment processes, to have standardized syllabi.
Jack said the online MA sounds exciting. Various faculty, such as Webb, Zhang, Mullinix, Avdan.. had some concerns and points in regard to some of the expectations around the online courses and and online MA and required details. Some things are needed for accessibility, but others creating concerns about intellectual property. There was some question about the online memorandum of agreement "Any course content you create, you agree that the University will be the owner of the content you contribute". Professor Kennedy will look into, but gave some assurance.
We will be going over to the coming Jayhawk Academic Advising setup. We are sad to say that our onsite Academic Advisor, Jordan Clark will be leaving as he has another position he will be taking. Jordan has been an incredible help in his time here and be sure to thank him. (He and family will be at the department picnic!)
The elevator in Blake will be modernized. The current one has been getting stuck with people still in it. It is good to avoid using it. Work will be done on the elevator, so it will be down during that time, early December, the 2nd, through january 12. New elevator should work much better.
Meeting was adjourned, even a bit early.
