Subject: RFPs for spring funding for faculty and departments - Applications due Dec. 4

Dear Chairs,

The Center for Teaching Excellence invites applications for four Spring 2020 programs and faculty funding opportunities. All applications are due Wednesday, December 4.

  *   Inclusive Teaching Faculty Seminar - An opportunity to explore inclusive and equitable teaching practices, through readings and participation in a faculty learning community, and incorporate them in a Fall 2020 course.
  *   January Jumpstart - A new course design institute developed for first-, second-, and third-year faculty who are planning a Spring 2020 course. Participants will discuss effective teaching practices and workshop ideas in a collegial setting.
  *   Curriculum Innovation Program - A two-year program in which department teams will design and implement a plan to innovate teaching and learning in two or three target courses and to assess the impact of the innovations. Resources include a $10,000 grant, opportunity to apply for travel funds for teams to visit another institution to learn about innovations, and consultation, guidance, and support from CTE.
  *   Benchmarks for Teaching Effectiveness Project - This program will provide grants up to $5000 to academic departments to adapt and use a tool designed to foster improved methods of reviewing, documenting, and evaluating faculty teaching practices. Departments participating in the project will identify a leader and a team of three or more faculty colleagues who will adapt the tool, use it within your department, share results, meet with a cross-department working group, and present your work to KU faculty.

Please note that two of these programs are specifically for departments, Curriculum Innovation and Benchmarks; we hope you will consider applying for one or both. And please encourage your new faculty members to apply for January Jumpstart.
