Subject: KU-Lawrence Portrait Event for Faculty, Deans, Directors and Communicators
The Office of Marketing Communications invites KU faculty, adjunct faculty, deans, directors and communicators to participate in an optional studio portrait event on October 15 and 16 at the KU Memorial Union. Portraits will take place on the first floor in “The Jay” and participation is free of charge. Due to limited resources, we are not able to accommodate GTAs, researchers without teaching appointments and staff.
Five-minute sittings are offered on a walk-in basis from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
We use faculty portraits when placing news stories, building university websites and creating promotional materials. All of these efforts are designed to gain additional recognition for your work and to enhance KU’s national stature.
Time: 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., walk-in (no appointments)
Dates: Tuesday, October 15, and Wednesday, October 16
Place: The Jay, 1st floor KU Memorial Union, Lawrence campus
Directions: KU Memorial Union is located at 1301 Jayhawk Blvd, Lawrence, KS 66045. Pay parking in the Mississippi St. Parking Garage (MSPK) is available adjacent to the union.
Wardrobe tips: Business attire with neutral or muted colors is recommended. To avoid excess contrast, individuals with darker complexions might consider choosing wardrobe items with middle-to-dark brightness values. Those with lighter complexions might consider wardrobe items with middle-to-light brightness values.
Caveats: Bold prints/patterns and neon colors tend to distract from one’s face. Stark white or black is difficult to reproduce pleasingly. Herringbone and other narrow weaves often appear distorted when displayed on a computer monitor. Low necklines often make subjects appear barely (or not at all) dressed, when the photo is closely cropped, such as in departmental webpages. Avoid long necklaces, subject to unfortunate cropping. Transitions®-type eyeglasses should be shielded from bright light for at least ten minutes, just prior to a portrait sitting.
FYI: If you are unable to participate, we'll be offering another semi-annual portrait event in Spring of 2020 which we hope you can attend. If you have recently participated in one of our portrait sessions, we'll continue to use your most recent portrait on file. If you have a recent, high quality digital portrait that you prefer for official use, please copy us at kuphotos at ku.edu<mailto:kuphotos at ku.edu>.
