Subject: Undergraduate Research Journal for the Humanities Call for Submissions

Dear Partners, KU Faculty, and Students,

It is my pleasure to announce that the Undergraduate Research Journal for the Humanities is now accepting submissions for our Spring 2020 issue!

This is a fantastic opportunity for undergraduate students conducting research in the Humanities to be recognized for their work and to gain experience navigating a professional publishing apparatus through our new website<https://journals.ku.edu/urjh> (journals.ku.edu/urjh) with KU Libraries and Open Journal Systems.

To submit, an author will go to our website, choose the Register button in the upper-righthand corner, and register as an author. From there, the author can go to our Submission Information & Author Guidelines page to submit their work. Authors can also find information about the submission requirements and guidelines on that page, but I will detail them here:

A submission can be a class paper (with some additions so that people unfamiliar with the topic can follow the argument), an independent research project, part of a capstone/senior thesis project, or an art exhibition review. It must be within 2000 and 9000 words. Every submission must include an abstract of 100 to 150 words and a scholarly literature section. The scholarly literature review section can be a paragraph or more. The author must explain the uniqueness of their argument in relation to other scholars in this section. For ease of reading, the submission must be in Times New Roman, 12 pt., and double-spaced. The font, font size, and spacing will be changed if the article is published. It needs to have a title, page numbers, and a header with the author's name (the Editor-in-Chief will remove the name before sending the submission to editors). Lastly, the submission must have footnotes, endnotes, or in-text citations, and a bibliography. The citations and the bibliography must be in the same style. The URJH only uses MLA and Chicago/Turabian citation styles.

Students will be able to submit their work from today, October 4th until Friday, February 14, 2020. Submissions will undergo two rounds of review: first, it will be blind-reviewed by a team of peer-editors, and if it is selected for the second round of review, the author will have chance to revise it before it is reviewed by another peer-editor as well as a faculty member in the field(s) engaged by the submission. We will release our 2020 issue on May 1st!

On behalf of the entire URJH team, we are so excited to receive your work and for you all to see our new website! We are so happy to provide this opportunity for KU undergraduates, and I ask that faculty and staff members pass this message on to their students and support them in submitting their work for review. Thank you for your dedication to and support for the Humanities; we appreciate you!

Any and all questions can be addressed to either myself, or my Co-Editor, Kesley Rolofson, at kuhumanitiesjournal at gmail.com<mailto:kuhumanitiesjournal at gmail.com>, or through the OJS's messaging feature.

Thank you,

Madelynn Kurtz
