Dear Colleagues,

The KU office of Study Abroad and Global Engagement (SAGE) - formerly the Office of Study Abroad - will be running a workshop on intercultural learning on February 15. Angela Perryman asked that I forward the message below to heads of units with faculty who teach courses that satisfy core goal 4.2 or that have faculty with an interest in the development of intercultural competence. The workshop does have a registration fee, but SAGE is offering 10-12 free spots for interested faculty. Please see Angela's message below for more details.

Dear Colleagues,

This Spring, the KU Study Abroad and Global Engagement office (note our new name!) will be offering a one-day workshop on Intercultural Learning in Education Abroad.  Facilitated by Steven Duke of the Institute for Cross-Cultural Teaching and Learning, the workshop will explore how students engage with their host communities when studying internationally, if and how students gain transferrable intercultural competencies through this experience, and how faculty and staff can effectively intervene in the student learning process to facilitate intercultural competence development both while abroad with students and in a campus-based classroom.

This workshop will provide both theoretical foundations and practical tools for incorporating intercultural learning into courses and study abroad programs.  As such, it will be useful for faculty teaching courses approved for KU Core Goal 4.2 (or courses being submitted for 4.2 approval), for faculty new to study abroad program design and implementation, for seasoned study abroad program directors seeking to enhance existing programs, and for all others with an interest in intercultural competence development in students.  Additional information is attached and below.

The cost of the workshop is $290 for University of Kansas employees who register by January 25th.  The Study Abroad office will be offering 10-12 free registrations for this workshop to KU faculty members.  Please complete this brief questionnaire<https://studyabroad.ku.edu/intercultural-learning-and-education-abroad-workshop> to indicate your interest in receiving Study Abroad support to participate in this workshop.  Individuals will be notified of funding by January 22, 2019.
