Chairs and Directors,

I’m writing to let you know that Paul Atchley has just accepted the position of Senior Associate Vice-President and Dean of Undergraduate Studies at the University of South Florida. He will finish the semester and will be departing KU in mid-January. I am very happy for Paul and believe this role is a natural progression from the outstanding work he has done in the College as the Associate Dean for Academic Innovation and Student Success. Most impressive is how he has built up this role with a wide range of accomplishments in collaboration with Kristine Latta, Karen Ledom, and Sam Montague as the College student success team. In his time serving the College in the Dean’s Office, Paul has managed to embody the ideal combination of leader and team player. He has truly made the College a better place for students, faculty, and staff with his vision and tireless work ethic. I have tremendous respect for Paul and I will miss him tremendously.

As I mentioned above, Paul has done outstanding work developing the role of Associate Dean for Academic Innovation and Student Success. Over the next few weeks we will be developing a plan for how we will fill this role, and we will discuss possibilities at our next chairs and directors meeting.

I will be sending out a similar note tomorrow to all faculty and staff in the College, but please do share this news with your faculty and staff as you see fit.

And let me close with a hearty thank you for all Paul has done for the College!
Carl

Sent on behalf of Paul Atchley

Dear Colleagues,

It is with some excitement and some sadness that I would like to announce I will be named tomorrow as the new Senior Associate Vice-President and Dean of Undergraduate Studies at the University of South Florida in Tampa. I will start January 15th, so my last day as Associate Dean for Academic Innovation & Student Success will be January 14th.

This announcement comes with some sadness not just because I have been at KU for a considerable period of time, with all of the good that has brought to my life, but because it means I will no longer be working directly with the wonderful staff and faculty here. I have changed enormously, I hope for the better, through my experiences at KU. My work family here will always have my gratitude for the relationships I have developed and the opportunities I have been offered.

In the coming months, I plan to help the College execute a smooth transition with new leadership who will continue upon the successes we have been able to secure in the Student Success Team. I hope this is not good-bye, but merely a pause before we are able to work together again the future.

Always and sincerely,

Rock Chalk

Paul

Paul Atchley, Ph.D.
