Hi Don,
For comparative, I may have previously mentioned the following two who are broadly trained, open-minded to different approaches, and well-respected in the discipline.
Russell Dalton http://www.socsci.uci.edu/~rdalton/ would be terrific (rdalton at uci.edu). Another good option would be Professor Matthew Gabel (Full Prof and Associate chair at Washington University: https://polisci.wustl.edu/Matthew_Gabel, email: mgabel at wustl.edu<mailto:mgabel at wustl.edu> ). A third person I think highly of as a comparativist with broad interests and experiences is Lee Ann Banaszak, full Professor and current head at Penn State
http://polisci.la.psu.edu/people/lab14 , email: lab14 at psu.edu<mailto:lab14 at psu.edu>

If these don't work, I can forward more names.

Robert

Subject: External Review - Department of Political Science

Greetings Professor Haider-Markel,

As you are aware, the Department of Political Science will undergo an external review in fall of the 2017-2018 academic year. Attached you will find the documents necessary to help prepare your program for the review. Please read the documents in the following order:

  1. Chair & Director External Review Guidelines
  2. Checklist and timeline for depts-prgms

At this point in the planning process I am in need of three things from you. The first is to begin the process of selecting dates for your site visit. The site visits follow a Sunday thru Tuesday schedule. I have identified the following dates that would work for the Dean's Office. Please select two dates that will work well for both you and your department:

September 17-19
October 1-3
October 15-17
October 22-25
October 29-31

After a date is settled on for the Department of Political Science's external review, I will fill out due dates in the checklist and send you an updated version. I wanted to pass the checklist along now so you can see the various steps in the process.

Our second item is identifying reviewers for your team. Please note that we need you to submit 4 reviewers for each seat on your review team (this means 12 total external reviewers, and 4 internal (KU) reviewers). The information for selecting these reviewers is located in the attached Review Guidelines documents.
The final item I need is a date that Associate Dean Mielke can visit your program and discuss the external review process with your faculty. This can be during a regularly scheduled faculty meeting. Please send me a few options and I will check them against his schedule.

If, after you review the documents, you have any questions, please contact Associate Dean Mielke or reply to this email.

Best,
Amanda
