Subject: Fw: Final program: The Bilingual, Interdisciplinary, and Virtual Symposium: “Druze Studies- Past, Present, and Future”; November 15-16, 2023; The University of Kansas.
The events here may be very relevant to our students, including international students, as it has a panel about how to publish articles for non-English speakers.

Dear JS faculty,
I wanted to draw your attention to this event that I organized, which will be held on November 15-16, 2023.
The symposium will feature online panels of original research on the Druze, a roundtable of experts on the status of Druze Studies, a keynote speaker, and a film screening. Attached to this message, you will find the program in PDF format. The website of the event can be found here https://druze.ku.edu/2023symposium.
As you will see in the program, we have about 30 scholars from institutions in North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Australia. Also, scholars will include various topics from different disciplines and focus on Druze communities in Syria, Lebanon, Israel, the Golan Heights, and diaspora communities.
Please note two specific sessions that are relevant to Israel and the keynote that is relevant to multilingual scholars in any discipline and department:
* Nov. 15 from 8:15-9:45 AM, Panel 1: Druze Identity and Social Integration in Israel and the Golan Heights: Gender, Art, Language, Education, and Politics (Hybrid: online and in person at Watson Library 455). We are proud to have 5 female scholars in this panel, out of which four are from Israel- one Jewish and three Druze.
* Nov. 15 from 12:30-2:00 PM, keynote. Dr. MJ Curry (online): Publishing in English-medium journals by multilingual scholars: From research findings to strategies for access (Hybrid: online and in person at Watson Library 455). Mr. Geoffrey Husic, The University of Kansas Libraries, will provide an response (in person).
* Nov, 16 from 12:15-2:15 PM, Conversation and Film Screening: the Druze Community in the Golan Heights (Hybrid: online and in person at the Sabatini Multicultural Resource Center). We will screen the documentary film Apples of the Golan (2012), followed by a conversation with the film directors.
On other panels, we have three more Israeli scholars presenting (but not on Druze in Israel). I hope all of them, and their families, will remain safe and be able to join us next month.
To attend the event online, please register here: https://kansas.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_keyL6AyQTX619msIPau0lQ#/registration . You can also join us in person, if this works with your schedule.
Please feel free to share this announcement with interested parties.
Best,
Rami
