Dear colleagues,

Chris Welzel, past president of the World Values Surveys and Professor of Political Culture Research at Leuphana University in Lüneburg, Germany, will give a talk on Tuesday April 18.

Chris is one of the most widely cited social scientists world-wide and his work has considerable cross-disciplinary appeal (for example, Steven Pinker features his research in a recent book). His previous work has been favorably reviewed not just by academic journals but was also featured by prominent newspapers, not to mention a Ted talk.

Chris just completed another monograph on the rise of western civilization entitled Cool Water: The Geo-Climatic Origin of the West. He will present some of his ideas at KU (see the attached flyer).

You and your students are welcome to attend his talk. If you would like to meet Chris separately, please let me know. He’ll be in Lawrence from Sunday evening (April 16) to Thursday morning (April 20).
