FYI, tomorrow...
Yelena just sent me her information for tomorrow's talk, if you'd like to circulate it. Her talk will be at 11 am.
The talk title: " Post-Soviet Russia-Kazakhstan relations: equilibrium of strategic interests?".
This talk is based upon the speaker's successfully completed PhD project at the University of Sydney, as well as on the consequent book, published by Routledge ( information about the book "Russia's Relations with Kazakhstan: Re-thinking Ex-Soviet Transitions in the Emerging World System" is available at https://www.routledge.com/Russias-Relations-with-Kazakhstan-Rethinking-Ex-Soviet-Transitions-in/Zabortseva/p/book/9781138950429<https://nam10.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.routledge.com%2FRussias-Relations-with-Kazakhstan-Rethinking-Ex-Soviet-Transitions-in%2FZabortseva%2Fp%2Fbook%2F9781138950429&data=04%7C01%7Cn716a235%40ku.edu%7Cb9aeb6d8b6c24fac094508d913fed636%7C3c176536afe643f5b96636feabbe3c1a%7C0%7C0%7C637562807520973813%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C1000&sdata=YffSJR%2FS6bALEXtXc%2BWhDKXbuXBIj2f8xJstiqgvp0I%3D&reserved=0> ).
The speaker's presentation will centre on an exploration of the changing relations between Russia and Kazakhstan, following the collapse of the USSR (from 1991 to 2018).
Two main questions will be addresses:
* What were the specific stages in Kazakhstan-Russia relations?
* What factors influenced the bilateral relations in general and the different stages of the relations?
The multifaceted relations between Kazakhstan and Russia from 1991 to the contemporary period will be analysed in terms of relations in several spheres, such as: political, military and security, socio-economic, national identity, regionalism and international trends.
This multidisciplinary model , combining historical and specific area-based relationships, is also useful in facilitating the evaluation of future trends in bilateral relations and multilateral relations of the analysed countries ( in this case, it is particularly relevant for the assessments of Kazakhstan' foreign policy developments).
