Robert Weems

Who were influential Black business leaders in Kansas during the 1960s? What challenges did they face? What impact did they make? Dr. Robert E. Weems, Jr. will discuss these Wichita-based leaders in the context of the policies and politics of the 1960s, with particular focus on Black business development and the civil rights movement.
This program is part 3 in a series presented in conjunction with the exhibit Voices from the Big First, 1961-1968, made possible by Humanities Kansas.

“Eggscellent!”
This year’s Easter Egg Roll with Dole was a great success in our COVID-era relaunch of our beloved annual event.
We welcomed nearly 200 enthusiastic participants over a five-week period. Guests of all ages participated in a variety of safe, socially-distanced activities, such as an egg hunt inside the museum and a bunny hop in front of the stained glass flag. Children also received a take-home coloring sheet and craft bag from the Lawrence Public Library.
We were glad to welcome families to the Dole Institute for traditional Easter fun. We hope to see you again next year!
