Rangel Fellowship for Graduate Studies
Deadline: Wednesday, October 14

This program seeks to prepare outstanding young people for careers in diplomacy, especially those interested in helping to shape a freer, more secure and prosperous world through US foreign policy. Rangel encourages the application of members of minority groups historically underrepresented in the Foreign Service, women, and those with financial need. The Rangel Program will award 45 fellowships of up to $42,000 annually for 2 years of tuition, room, board, books and fees. Rangel Fellows are expected to maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.2 and to earn a degree in international affairs or relevant field at an approved graduate school within 2 years. Virtual Internship
International Relations Council

If you are a current undergraduate or graduate student who is passionate about understanding the world and helping to bring a global perspective to our community, the IRC would love to talk with you! This internship has been created for KU students in a partnership between the IRC and KU’s GIST program. This  nonprofit organization works in partnership with businesses, universities, community organizations, and K-12 schools in Kansas City. Pickering Fellowship for Graduate Studies

This program prepares outstanding young people for Foreign Service careers and welcomes the application of members of minority groups historically underrepresented in the State Dept, women, and those with financial need. The program values varied backgrounds--ethnic, racial, social, and geographic diversity. After completing a 2-year master’s program and fulfilling additional requirements, fellows can work as Foreign Service Officers. The fellowship helps finance 2-year graduate programs, provides 2 summer internships, offers mentoring from a Foreign Service Officer, and professional development activities. This program ensures that the Foreign Service reflects the face of America and provides a source of trained women and men who are dedicated to representing America’s interests abroad. Critical Language Scholarship (CLS)
Deadline: Tuesday, November 17, 7:00 pm

CLS is an intensive overseas language and cultural immersion program for American students. Individuals spend 8-10 weeks abroad studying 1 of 15 critical languages. The program includes intensive language instruction and structured cultural enrichment experiences designed to promote rapid language gains. Most languages offered by this program do not require prior knowledge. CLS is part of a government initiative to increase Americans studying and mastering foreign languages that are critical to national security and economic prosperity. CLS plays an important role in preparing students for the 21st century's globalized workforce and increasing national competitiveness. GIST STUDENTS
Earn a BA and MA in 5 years!

This MA program in Contemporary East Asian Studies has been created for GIST undergrads. Take graduate courses in your 4th year which count for both undergrad and grad degrees. Earn a GIST BA in spring of your 4th year, continue with graduate courses, and graduate with a CEAS MA in the spring of your 5th year.
