President Bill Clinton delivers the inaugural Dole Lecture

The first featured program in our Dole Institute of Politics “Greatest Hits” series is also the first Dole Lecture, delivered in 2004 by Bob Dole’s political rival and friend, Bill Clinton. Interest in the event was so high that the Dole Institute had to move the program to Allen Fieldhouse.

Alan Greenspan

Greenspan served as Chairman of the U.S. Federal Reserve (1987-2006). He was the head of the Greenspan Commission (The National Commission on Social Security Reform), on which Dole served.

Bear Lee Able

Senator Dole is known for his sense of humor, but on the vice presidential campaign trail in 1976, he repeated the same bear joke at so many events that the press grew exasperated.  The reporters traveling with the campaign got this teddy bear, gave him his own press credentials and seat on the plane, and named him Bear Lee Able, signifying that they were barely able to hear the joke one more time.
