Meeting Online Needs of Students

With the first day of classes only 4 weeks away, we are here to help as you finalize your planning.

Some of your students may need fully online adaptations of in-person or hybrid courses as it is likely that for all or part of the semester some students will be unable to be on campus with us (due to illness, quarantine, or other reasons). As you plan, please consider how to meet the needs of these students and prepare your courses for access online.

If you would like assistance thinking through how your class design will be impacted, staff & faculty partners in KU’s Center for Teaching Excellence, Center for Online & Distance Learning, and IT Educational Technology Team stand ready to help.

  *   Guidebook on Flexible Teaching<https://flexteaching.ku.edu/> provides comprehensive guidance for designing online and flexible courses tailored to needs anticipated this academic year.
  *   Weekly workshops<https://flexteaching.ku.edu/events> are available for online and hybrid course design, including two tomorrow Friday, July 24!
  *   Faculty Consulting Network:<https://flexteaching.ku.edu/faculty-consultants> Faculty colleagues from your disciplinary area can help you get on the right track for fall.
  *   TLC (Teaching and Learning Corps):<https://flexteaching.ku.edu/tlcs> Designated support teams, composed of a CTE Faculty Consultant, a CODL Consultant, and an IT Consultant, assigned to each school or department. TLCs can consult on course adaptation, and direct you to resources, programs and events that address your unit’s specific needs.
  *   Engaging Ideas for Flexible Teaching: Preparing for Fall 2020<https://mailchi.mp/4f692ac39f8e/engaging-ideas-for-flexible-teaching-preparing-for-fall-2020?e=632e64ef23> provides real KU examples of spring-semester instructional activities and assignments that were fun to implement and engaged & motivated students in ways that took advantage of the online environment.
  *   The KU Teaching Summit: Teaching in a Transformed World<https://kusurvey.ca1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_0fw9ZA5zCANIthP> will be held virtually on Thursday August 20, 2020 from 9:00am-12:00pm. Be sure to register prior to August 17 to get the Zoom link! The summit keynote Dismantling Educational Inequities Through Teaching will be presented by Professors Kelly Hogan and Viji Sathy of the University of North Carolina.
