Dear Friends:

Jolene Troidl from LRS Consulting, a technical placement agency, contacted me about hiring somebody to help with data analysis for the State of Kansas Department of Health and Environment.  I thought the job sounded great and I'm glad to let you know about it.  The pay was stated as hourly, but I recall calculating that if I worked 40 hours for 50 weeks, the total salary would be $75,000.  As far as State of Kansas employment goes, that's pretty good.  In industry, I expect a beginner might command a salary that is, say, 10% higher, but the industry jobs I've checked are not quite so agreeable to the academic way of thinking as this one.  I've had great interactions with the staff at KDHE while helping on other projects and I believe they will be honorable colleagues.

Most of the tech jobs I see lately are limited term contracts with an assurance that it could become a long term job.  I don't think you should worry too much about that.  From what I can tell, if you prove you are technically capable, the employers will be eager to stop you from going elsewhere.

   * Perform data exploration and statistical analysis of syndromic data

Requirements

   * At least 1 year of experience in development using SAS
   * At least 3 months of writing SQL Queries
   * Candidate must be able to effectively communicate in English
     (written & verbal)
