Hi everyone,

Just a reminder about Timothy Longman’s talk tomorrow, Thursday, April 17, from 3:30-5:00 in Malott Room, with a reception to follow.
The talk is entitled “Reflection on 25 Years Since the Rwandan Genocide.” This is part of the month long events to reflect on and learn from the genocide. Please feel free to invite all your classes.

Here is a short bio of Dr. Longman, for those of you who don’t yet know his work:

Timothy Longman is the director of the Institute on Culture, Religion, and World Affairs (CURA) in the Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, where he previously served as director of the African Studies Center for eight years.  He has held research and teaching positions at Vassar College, the University of California, Berkeley, Columbia University, the National University of Rwanda, and the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa. He has also served as a consultant for Human Rights Watch, the International Center for Transitional Justice, and USAID in Rwanda, Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Uganda. He is the author of Christianity and Genocide in Rwanda (2010) and Memory and Justice in Post-Genocide Rwanda (2017), which won the prize for the best book in African politics from the African Politics Conference Group and received honorable mention for the Herskovitz and Ogot prizes from the African Studies Association.
