Paul Ortiz is Associate Professor of History at the University of Florida and is Director of the Samuel Proctor Oral History Program.  In addition to An African American and Latinx History of the United States he is also the author of Emancipation Betrayed: The Hidden History of Black Organizing and White Violence in Florida from Reconstruction to the Bloody Election of 1920.

Ortiz worked as a volunteer labor organizer with the United Farm Workers (UFW) in Washington State and the Farm Labor Organizing Committee (FLOC) in North Carolina. He is a veteran of the United States Army and served with the 82nd Airborne Division.
