Sierra Watt is a Political Science doctoral candidate who holds graduate certificates in Women, Gender & Sexuality Studies and Indigenous Studies. Her research focuses on Native American tribal governments and the political efforts of Native American women.

This lecture will discuss women who have been elected to office within Native American tribal governments. Despite the growing number of women elected to political office and increasing research in the areas of women in politics, there is little research on gender within tribal politics specifically. Watt will examine the three primary categories of political factors that influence women’s descriptive representation and the need to develop additional tribe-level factors.

The Gallery Lecture Series highlights major exhibitions in Watson Library’s Haricombe Gallery,
contributing to the campus culture of engaged scholarship.
