Hello All,

I hope everyone is enjoying this nice weather! Below are quick descriptions for the Workgroups this Friday. Also, please take note that Eric Shannon, a GRA at CRMDA, will be giving his research presentation this Friday from 3-4 p.m. in Watson 455. Everyone is welcome to come listen. Likewise, we have also booked another colloquium for the following Friday, March 9th. Doug Duhaime, a Digital Humanities Developer from Yale University will give a presentation over topic modeling in Python. Again, all are welcome and no registration necessary.

1) Bayesian Multi-Level Modeling Workgroup with Paul Johnson, CRMDA Director | 11 AM - 12 PM | Watson 455 Conference Room
Check status of team member assignments for Stan code. The group will develop visualization strategy for Markov Chain estimates and plan for evaluation of unimodal and quasi-concave posterior distributions.

2) Spatial Stats Workgroup with Jacob Fowles, CRMDA Faculty Fellow | 12-1 PM | Watson 455 Conference Room
This week, Zack will speak about spatial Bayesian IRT models. Following Zack, Charlie, Eric, and Patrick will speak about options for spatial weight matrix normalization and how various options are implemented in R and Stata.

3) Python Text Analysis Workgroup with Jonathan Lamb, CRMDA Faculty Fellow | 1 - 2 PM | Watson 410A
This week the group will explore topic modelling in Python.

He will guide participants through the process of building topic models in the Python programming language. Discussion will cover different techniques used to build topic models and will then move onto implementing custom topic models with sample data and visualizing the results.

Presenter: Doug Duhaime, PhD
Date: Friday, March 9th
Time: 2-3:30 PM
