Presentation of the proposed sign code to the City Commission is scheduled for the Commission meeting next Tuesday evening (8-10-17). The meeting begins at 5:45 PM in the City Hall Commission Room. The agenda for the Commission meeting can be found at <a href="https://lawrenceks.org/agendas/">https://lawrenceks.org/agendas/</a> (should be posted by late afternoon on Thursday, 8-10). I’ve also attached a copy of a code change summary that will be included with the agenda packet. However, content is substantially the same as the proposed “standards” presented to the Sign Code Board of Appeals on 6-1-17, but with intent and purpose statements included up front, and final typo corrections and other formatting changes. <o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-family:"Tahoma",sans-serif'><o:p> </o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-family:"Tahoma",sans-serif'>If the proposed code is adopted on first reading on 8-15, the second reading will not be until 9-5-17 since the Commission has no meeting scheduled for either 8-22 or 8-29. The first document, Major Changes Summary, is pretty much the template for the staff memo that will be provided to the SCBA, and includes an attachment of the few code sections and Table 5-1814 that are the heart of the regulations. Melinda, the regulations for what used to be called “political signs” in the least intense zoning districts (residential and office) have been modified to remove any limitation on the number of signs during the defined political season (50 days before and 10 days after the date of a political election, referendum or ballot measure). Although there may be some time between a primary and a general election when some signs would have to be taken down, remember that in residential & office districts, lots can always have up to 3 signs, and that some lots (like corner lots) can have up to 4 signs at any time.
