[Electronic-LAN] petition - mega-apartment rezoning in Brook Creek Neighborhood

Hello neighbors:
I’m asking for your help in a very important issue for me and my 
neighbors in Brook Creek Neighborhood.  An out-of-town developer is 
pushing to cram an apartment complex onto wooded hillside property at 
2111 East 15th Street.  Their plan would build the largest high density 
apartment complex in Lawrence in a neighborhood of primarily 
owner-occupied, single-dwelling homes, and would remove land that could 
be used for single-dwelling opportunities.

This would create disruption to neighborhood character, environmental 
preservation goals, traffic safety standards, and stormwater control 
concerns. Two-hundred-year-old oak trees would be bulldozed for parking 
lots.  While we support increasing housing opportunity, this is 10 times 
greater density than the surrounding residential areas and the largest 
increase in density ever proposed for a Lawrence neighborhood.  It will 
be a 77% increase in the neighborhood population – nothing subtle about 
this change.  This is not an appropriate location for a complex of this 
size.

We’re urgently gathering signatures of support to help guide the 
Planning Commission next week, and the City Commission, in their 
decisions on this mega-apartment project.  Please sign our petition and
