Dear listserve members,
In my report on plastic recycling at the LAN meeting yesterday, I
believe I stated that plastic films were not recyclable. This is
incorrect.Film is recyclable but does not sort well in the Hamm Material
Recovery Facility (MRF) that serves Lawrence. Film can be recycled in
Lawrence grocery and specialties stores such as Checkers, Dillons,
Hy-Vee, Kohl’s, Target, The Merc, and Walmart. Dillons makes deck planks
with recycled film and accepts film of all types.
For full service recycling, Checkers has a full set of city recycling
bins in their parking lot and film bins inside, as does Hy-Vee. The
12^th and Haskell Recycle Center accepts metal, chipboard, cardboard,
magazine, and newspaper, and are the only local business that recycles
appliances and scrap metal. Sorry for my error.
Best,
Gary Webber
