Neighbors,

Below, please find a news release from the City advising that the process
of revising our Land Development Code (Code) will begin soon.  The City is
seeking a contractor to assist in the revision of the Code.  You can follow
the link below and review the RFP for more details on what the City hopes
to achieve during this revision and update.

This is something LAN has anticipated for awhile since the new
Comprehensive Plan 2040 was approved.  This will be a great opportunity for
the neighborhoods to advise and participate in the revision of our Land
Development Code that will control issues important to us for years to come.

*City of Lawrence issues RFP for update of Land Development Code*

The City of Lawrence this week issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) from
qualified firms to assist with the revision and update of the Land
Development Code. The RFP is available to view online, here

and proposals are due by 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 30.

The Land Development Code is a framework for our community that determines
the kind of building that can be done and where. It guides everything from
allowed land uses, building density, setbacks, street widths, parking
requirements and more.

The City’s current Land Development Code

was adopted in July 2006 and reflects the community’s values and
expectations as included in the previous comprehensive plan, Horizon 2020,
which was adopted in 1998. In November 2019, the City of Lawrence and
Douglas County adopted a new comprehensive plan, Plan 2040

and in 2021, the City adopted the Lawrence Strategic Plan

which sets out strategies and progress indicators for five outcome areas:
Unmistakable Identity; Strong, Welcoming Neighborhoods; Safe and Secure;
Prosperity and Economic Security; and Connected City.

The Strategic Plan and the Comprehensive Plan set the vision for our
community, and the Land Development Code is the list of standards and
regulations that help us implement that vision.

The selected firm will assist in various aspects of the Land Development
Code update, including land use planning, infrastructure assessment, data
collection and analysis, and public engagement. The City will be announcing
more information once a firm is selected and public engagement
opportunities are scheduled.
