*City Manager announces new Planning and Development Services Director*

City Manager Craig Owens announced today that Jeff Crick will be the new
Planning and Development Services Director for the City of Lawrence-Douglas
County Planning and Development Services Department. Jeff has served as the
Planning Manager for the department since 2018 and joined the City in 2013.
He will begin in his new role immediately.

Mr. Owens stated, “I am excited about Jeff taking on this new role. He has
demonstrated enthusiasm and commitment to the important services provided
by the department and an openness to look at these functions with a fresh
perspective. We are fortunate to have Jeff working for the City of
Lawrence.”

Mr. Crick was selected after strongly competing against a field of
candidates from multiple states resulting from a national search. During
the process, the City utilized several interview panels to provide input.
The panels consisted of Douglas County officials, neighborhood leaders, the
Chamber of Commerce, department team members, the business community, and
planning experts.

When informed about the selection, Mr. Crick said, “I am honored to
continue serving Lawrence and Douglas County in this new role, and I look
forward to working with the community as a whole to help bring positive
changes to reality. In my first days I want to take time to listen and
learn even more about the community’s vision for helping Douglas County and
Lawrence grow into a stronger, more resilient community.”

Mr. Crick has over 12 years of experience in varying levels of planning and
community development. Previously, he was a long-range planner with the
City of Columbia, South Carolina where he served as the principal author
and project manager for their comprehensive plan and staffed the
Design/Development Review Commission. He joined the City of Lawrence -
Douglas County in November of 2013 as a Planner II, serving the
Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee and working on Plan 2040, the Oread
Neighborhood Design Guidelines, and serving as staff liaison to the Board
of Zoning Appeals. Since 2018, he has served as the Planning Manager for
the City of Lawrence - Douglas County. He has a bachelor’s degree in
political science and history, and a Master of Urban Planning degree from
the University of Kansas. He has been a member of the American Institute
of Certified Planners since 2010.

Mr. Owens also gave thanks to interim director Amy Miller saying, “I want
to recognize and thank Amy Miller for her work serving as the interim
director since late 2019. Amy has done an outstanding job maintaining
services and functions during the interim, and leading the department with
responsiveness and creativity related to the pandemic.” Ms. Miller will
return to her role as Assistant Director.
