Partners! We have a need for speed!

The limited amount of time we have to count all Kansas residents in the
2020 Census has become a bit more limited. The U.S. Census Bureau will
conclude its decennial count by September 30, a month sooner than announced
when field operations were extended due to the pandemic.

Absolutely this will be a challenge, but we're up for it! Processes are
being streamlined and timelines adjusted to ensure the completion of data
collection and apportionment counts are submitted per the constitutionally
mandated deadline of December 31.

More details will be forthcoming, but the mission has not changed. We are
counting everyone who resides in the U.S. once, only once and in the right
place. Already census takers are being dispatched across Kansas to
personally call on households that have not yet responded to the 2020
Census. Hundreds of Census Bureau employees will be stepping up over the
next two months to ensure all Kansas residents are counted and that safety
remains paramount in the process.

"Stop the* Knock!"*

The timeline adjustment makes it more important than ever to promote self
response to the 2020 Census. Kansas joins other states in a "Stop the
Knock" campaign (social media posts attached) to remind persons that once
they respond to the census they are taken out of NRFU (Non-Response
Follow-Up). In doing so it is less likely a census taker will come to the
household.

Side note: If a census taker knocks on a door for NRFU and no one is home
or doesn't answer, then a notice of visit is left. The notice includes the
household's Census ID with encouragement to respond right away.

There's still time to respond to the #2020Census online and by phone before
census takers begin visiting households starting in August. Respond today
online at 2020census.gov or by calling 844-330-2020 to complete your

Kansas continues to do well with census self response in comparison with
other states. Our 66.8% self-response rate places us 14th in the nation.
