Yard Parking in Lawrence
Please remember that parking on yards in the City of Lawrence is illegal, even if you have been invited to do so by the property owner, and vehicles may be ticketed.
In addition, vehicles cannot block sidewalks, park on the right-of-way (area between curb and sidewalk) or jump curbs to park in yards.
Basketball season is right around the corner and finding parking during games can be challenging, but make sure it's done legally.
City Code 17-410.30 reads:
PARKING OFF STREET, IMPROVED PARKING SURFACE REQUIRED.  No person shall park a vehicle off the street in the front or side yard setback area, which shall be defined as the area between the public right-of-way and the rear line of a building or any projection thereof, unless on parking or driveway surfaces required by the City Code.  Violation of this Section shall be punishable by a fine not less than $30 nor more than $100 for each offense.  Each day's violation shall constitute a separate offense.  The City Commission or the City Manager may determine that the provisions of this Section are not to be enforced for a specified location or locations for a period not to exceed 24 hours.
