*19^th Street Reconstruction Project to begin Monday, March 11*
Beginning on Monday, March 11th, work is scheduled to start on the 19^th
Street Reconstruction and Pedestrian Tunnel projects. These consist of
street, sidewalk, waterline, storm and sanitary sewer improvements on
19th Street from Iowa Street to Naismith Drive and pedestrian tunnels
at 19^th and Iowa Streets.
>From the start date ― and lasting for the duration of the project ― Iowa
Street will be reduced to one lane in each direction and access between
Iowa and 19th Street will be closed. Also starting March 11th, utility
relocation will require several days of 19^th Street closure from Iowa
Street to Ousdahl Road. After the utility relocation is complete, the
first phase of the project will require 19^th Street closure from Iowa
Street to Stewart Avenue and from Ousdahl Road to Naismith
Drive. Traffic control devices will be in place to direct traffic. The
contractor will provide access to local residents. Expect delays in the
area.
The City will provide construction and road closure updates as the
project progresses. Project completion is expected in August 2019. The
project contractor is RD Johnson of Lawrence, KS.
More construction information, resources, and a current road
construction map are available on the City’s website at
