Hello!

Thank you for taking the time to chat with me about Community Webs. As
promised, here is a bit of wording that I have been using in communicating
the goals of this project through email   and a link to the Facebook event:


*Community Webs is a deliberate community-based practice concerned with
ensuring public access to information in the present, and well into the
future, through the process of preserving digital and online content.
Content may include: Oral histories, social-media radio, music and
performances, TV, videos, websites and blogs.The web serves as a primary
space where community members go for information. The average website
remains unchanged for ~90 days making the web more ephemeral than we tend
to think. The rapidly changing nature of the internet can skew future
perspectives of history. Archiving captures and preserves websites &
web-based information, creating trusted, reliable citations. It preserves
community histories, guaranteeing continual, free access to information.
The archival process of Community Webs is guided by community members. So,
what’s important to you, Lawrence? Stop by the Lawrence Public Library July
18th-20th to find out how you can help preserve the history of Lawrence and
Douglas County through the Community Webs archiving project! *
