How many ways would discouraging sprawl be fiscal responsible policy?

For the forum on Douglas County Commission Democratic Primary, District 1

Background:

The update to Horizon 2020 calls for discouraging sprawl by redirecting growth of real estate development away from the perimeter of Lawrence and toward more intensive use of existing vacant land which will help to revitalize older neighborhoods.  Such a plan will only work if the County Commission is willing to say “No” to development proposals in the urban growth perimeter of Lawrence, redirecting that development back into the city.

The question:

As a County Commissioner, will you be willing to support this plan and make it work?

All the best,

Kirk
