The OWLA exec committee met Tuesday to plan our annual neighborhood sale. We specifically discussed outreach with neighboring NAs including Pinckney.
Our annual sale will be held Saturday, October 16, one of the few days with a KU away football game.
We did a central yard sale once and ended up giving a lot to Goodwill. Logistics were a problem. Since then we coordinate and advertise locations with a map on on website. We ask for a percentage of sales donated to the association and many exceed the request.

Subject: [Electronic-lan] Neighborhood Garage Sale Questions
The Pinckney Neighborhood Association is planning a neighborhood garage sale as a fund raiser for PNA and we would like to hear of other neighborhood group’s experiences with this type venture.
For starters we are considering two approaches.
One is having a central location where neighbors bring donated items and PNA volunteers conduct the sale and PNA keeps all proceeds. Thoughts about this approach include the need to obtain a sufficiently large location with parking, having storage space to collect items before the sale, people would be needed to price items then place them out to sale and then deal with left over unsold items. We thought possibly donate left over items to the Salvation Army or other organization.
The other approach would be to have PNA advertise a neighborhood wide sale where people would have their own garage sales at their residence then hopefully donate a portion of their proceeds to PNA. It was mentioned this is how the Arts Guild runs Art In The Park.
I know some neighborhood associations have held neighborhood garage sales and would like to hear about your experiences.
Are we missing any other ideas how to organize something like this?
Thanks in advance for any help.
