The current economic development planner is organizationally located in the office of the City Manager.  It would be my expectation that additional economic development planners would also reside in the City Manager’s office.  We want these planners to have the ear of the City Manager and the City Commissioners and do not want the economic development planners to be under pressure to “do the deal” because the developers want something done, as is so often the case in the Planning Department.  We cannot insulate economic development from all political pressure, but we should strive to create a climate where economic development is guided, as much as possible, by high quality, professional analysis rather than politics.
