Dear Affordable Housing Coalition Members or Interested Parties,

Below is a link to the draft of the July Affordable Housing Advisory Board
Minutes and UniverCity Program in Iowa City. In the minutes the advisory
board is discussing strategies to build, scatter, acquire or rehab housing
for various housing needs.

Of course, the hardest need to serve, those households earning less than
30% of median income (the poverty level) that are in transition or need
supportive housing seem to be the ones that are hardest to address (in the
drafted minutes).

The drafted minutes indicate much discussion or consideration for
supporting home ownership, including an Iowa City program that provides
“affordable housing” for those earning between 140% to 160% of median
income. It would allow these households to purchase a rehabbed home that
sold for less than $235,000 and seems to be based on the supposition that
there are many households in Lawrence that earn $80,000 to $100,000 per
year that cannot afford to purchase a $235,000 home in Lawrence.

Please read the minutes and the UniverCity link and comment to the Board
Members in writing or in person at the public comment section of the next
Affordable Housing Advisory meeting scheduled for next Monday, August 8 at
11am in the Commission Meeting Room.

If you would like the Lawrence Affordable Housing Coalition to draft a
letter reflecting the Coalitions affordable housing aims or concerns please
send me your concerns in writing. Thanks - Robert
